Five of the Best: Fabric Storage Boxes

These days, a pile of dog-eared cardboard boxes in the attic just won’t cut it – now that we’ve discovered the KonMari method, we want our boxes to be as pretty as all of our other home accessories. In this spirit, we’ve gone on a search for the best in fabric storage boxes and emerged with our five favourites, each of them available now from an online retailer near you!

Linea Geometric Canvas Storage Box

Geometric Canvas Storage Box – £15, Linea

We love the bright yellow geometric trim that covers this storage box by Linea. Measuring 33.5cm by 34cm (by 35cm), the box folds to be perfectly flat, making it perfect for homes where space is limited. If you like the bright design but the colour scheme isn’t your thing, a box in the same shape and size is available in broad bands of cream and grey.

2-Piece Cat Design Storage Set

Two-Piece Cat Design Storage Set – £7.49 (was £14.99), Ace.co.uk

Cats love boxes, but they’re fairly indifferent to everything else – string aside – so it remains to be seen whether they’ll be impressed that they’re depicted in a tapestry-style fabric on the outside of these folding storage boxes from Ace.co.uk. At almost half its original price, this is a lot of storage box for your money – the two piece set contains two cubic boxes of 20cm and 30cm.

Chipstead Fabric Basket by Closetmaid

Chipstead Fabric Basket – £25.98 (was £29.56), Closetmaid
Another foldable design, Closetmaid’s  fabric drawer is available in thirteen (!) shades – yellow, green, black, natural, hunter green, royal blue, canteen (that’s brown!), fuschia, grey, mocha, pastel blue and red, as well as in the rather fetching pink colour shown here. You’ll get two boxes – 27.94cm high, with a base that’s 26.67cm square – in this set. Made from a non-woven polypropylene fabric, they have a pull handle at the front for easy portability.

Small Folding Ottoman Storage Box

Small Folding Ottoman Storage Box – £19.99, Visco Therapy

Why shouldn’t storage be glamorous? Made from a faux leather fabric, this ottoman storage box from Visco therapy measures 38cm down each side and has a removable lid. The fully-foldable box is also available in a version that’s twice its width, if you really like the finish – but both versions are available in fuschia, cream, brown and black versions, if you’re looking for a practical bit of storage that looks great.

Wilko Weave 30cm Storage Box in Cream

Weave 30cm Storage Box in Cream – £5, Wilko

Wilko have become well-known for their wide range of storage solutions and when you combine that with their competitive prices they really are hard to beat! This storage box demonstrates that – a cube measuring 30cm, it’s fully-collapsible and is made from a cream-coloured woven fabric. A large eyelet at the front of the boxes makes them easy to handle and Wilko also sell a storage unit perfectly designed to accommodate them – and at a fiver each, they won’t break the bank!

Five of the Best: Tabletop Christmas Trees

Since Prince Albert introduced the tradition to Victorian England, we’ve enjoyed displaying Christmas Trees in our homes – whether they’re the real, needle-shedding, thing or their plastic counterparts. In more recent times, we’ve expanded the trend and added pint-sized versions around the home and even on the Christmas dining table top! Today we pick out five of our favourite tabletop Christmas trees, each of which is guaranteed to brighten up and bring seasonal warmth to your festive dining table!

Modern Copper Maisons du Monde metal tabletop Christmas tree

Modern Copper Metal tabletop Christmas tree – £20.39, Maisons du Monde

Maison du Monde’s Christmas tree looks rather stark in its naked form (and, please note, the baubles shown here aren’t included – it’s just the frame) but once adorned with decorations it is transformed, as you can see! At 95cm high and 64cm wide, it’s small enough for the table but not too diminutive to get lost as a floor decoration, and is available in a silver-coloured version as well as in the goldtone variety shown here.
Silver M&S Table Top Retreat Tree with Baubles

Silver Table Top Retreat Tree with Baubles – £15, M&S

Described as a ‘boutique bristle tree’, M&S’s decoration is a petite 39cm high and covered in silver glitter and baubles (in two sizes) which gives the impression that it is covered in frost. Sitting on a flat, circular base, it is 39cm high (and 39cm in diameter) and is available in a version that’s a more traditional green with red baubles.

60cm Flocked Table Top Tree by Ace

Flocked Table Top Tree – £29.99, Ace

Something more traditional now, as we introduce Ace’s tabletop Christmas tree which sports realistic pine needle fronds as well as frosted natural pine cones, red berries and metallic red baubles. With a flocked finish, the tree stands at 60cm high and will work well either as a centrepiece on your dining table or on a side table anywhere in the home.

Thumbs Up Inflatable 45cm Christmas Tree
Thumbs Up Inflatable 45cm Christmas Tree – £9.99, Thumbs Up

And now for something completely different…this inflatable Christmas tree by Thumbs Up is perfect if you want to avoid Christmas clutter – it’s 54cm high when inflated but deflates to virtually nothing, using up a negligible amount of storage space until you need to display it in 12 months’ time! It sits on a red base and twelve baubles in white and red are included.

Pre-Lit 3D Christmas Tabletop Tree with Colour Changing LED Lights by The Seasonal Aisle

Pre-Lit 3D Christmas Tabletop Tree with Colour Changing LED Lights – £6.33 (was £9.99), The Seasonal Aisle

In our experience it’s always a bit hit-and-miss when the Christmas lights are dug out – will they work for another year? Bypass them and introduce this 3D tree decoration to your home! Standing atop a silver, rectangular wooden base, this battery-operated ornament (it requires 3 x AA batteries) is illuminated by two colour-changing LEDs and decorated with an abundance of stars.

Five of the Best: Wine Cabinets

It might not be the first thing you look for when you’re setting up home – a bed or a sofa might take priority – but if you’re going to be entertaining in future then a wine cabinet could be a great addition to your living space. Double Bass Wine Rack – £152.99 (was £169.99), Hill Interiors

We begin with a true statement piece – Hill Interiors’ wine rack, which is in the shape of a double bass. You’d have to consume an awful lot of your favourite booze to get a tune out of this one, but that’s no worry as it holds ten bottles of wine or champagne (though, as ever – please drink responsibly!) This fine piece is made from a dark-stained wood and stands on four slanted legs. A slightly smaller cello-shaped wine rack, which holds eight bottles, is also available.

Coastal Reclaimed Wooden Wine Cabinet by Indian Hub

Coastal Reclaimed Wooden Wine Cabinet – £305.99, Indian Hub

We’re already great fans of Indian Hub’s range of furniture made entirely from reclaimed wood, but this Coastal wooden wine cabinet is especially appealing, with its striking curvy shape. The eco-friendly piece takes the form of a circular storage area fitted with three slotted shelves – providing room for you to store ten bottles in all – which is slotted on top of a sturdy frame. The use of reclaimed wood means that no two pieces are exactly the same.

Made from a combination of solid oak, oak veneer, pine and MDF, it has an oak drawer with a metal handle on top (for corkscrews and the like) and will house sixteen bottles of wine. It also has an anti-toppling kit, so that the unit remains sturdy even when you’re not!

Ottmar Espresso Wine Cabinet

Espresso Wine Cabinet – £201.60, Ottmar

We love this wine cabinet from Ottmar which, despite its modern looks, puts is in mind (thanks to its functionality) of the drinks cabinets of yesteryear. Perfect for entertaining, this fabulous wine cabinet is 91cm high and 110cm wide and is part of a wide range of fabulous furniture – including an impressive bookcase and coffee tables – that has the same espresso colour finish. Its sides comfortably store twelve bottles of plonk, but there are acres of space for you to store and prepare other drinks.

Five of the Best: Circular Wall Mirrors

Adding a circular mirror is a great way to dress a wall – it’ll add depth to a smaller space, and increase the light in the area. Bearing that in mind, we’ve had a scout around some of our favourite online retailers and emerged with our five favourite currently-available circular wall mirrors.

Gray & Willow White Wash Mirror With Shelf

White Wash Mirror With Shelf – £160, Gray & Willow

Its large (82cm in diameter) frame is curved and has mirrored mosaic pieces set into it to create a reflective frame that’ll create an illusion of space wherever it sits!

Five Contemporary Velvet Chairs

Mention of velvet chairs may cause you to conjure up images of sediment-coloured armchairs in smoky sitting rooms…but the fabric we still can’t resist touching has made something of a comeback in furniture terms and the structures are non-traditional, and colours are bright.
